While the weekend was filled with the news about what was going to
happen or was happening at the Oscars, boxing fans around the world were
still digesting the news about the upcoming fight between Floyd
Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. I am one of them. Unlike many fans who
jumped and shouted the word Yes at the top or couldn’t stop
singing, humming and chanting, I sat down with the heightened senses
calmly saying, “Finally, it is happening”. But I also phoned and texted
couple of my close friends to share news or pass on the excitement.
It’s is, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated fights in
recent history. A number of things makes this fight special [and I guess
that is exactly what Mayweather wanted all along].
Manny and Pacquiao are both very well respected boxers [if that
respect is not an understatement] with millions of fans behind their
backs. Mayweather has never lost a professional fight. His current
record is 47-0. That alone should widen your eyes and make you take a
step back. But it’s true. No one has managed to beat him. Whether there
is anything behind what we see in the ring or not, only him and his
closest buddies know. With his chin high and shoulders back and a gleam
in one of his eye, Mayweather is already boasting that come May 3rd his record will be 48-0!
On the other hand Pacquiao is a real boxer. He has lost fights. Some
of the fights he lost put people on the stand-up modes with rapid
disbelieving shakes of the head. They thought he was dead. His current
record 64-5. He knows what it means to loose and come back. Mayweather
Jr doesn’t have an idea how that feels. That means, Pacquiao will enter
the MGM Grand as an “underdog” without that sensational feeling of being
taller, bigger and stronger in the very sense of it.
He is humble and quiet. A God fearing man who likes to help and serve
people. He is a congressman in his native Phillipines. Of course these
are characteristics Floyd Mayweather doesn’t have and not in a mission
to attain them. He is flamboyant. He likes to show off. That makes some
people feel like he is entering their personal space to intimidate. If
you care, of course. He always walk around with that feeling of being
able to conquer the world. He is always bragging and obsessively talking
about his achievements or material objects. You can tell he enjoys
proving others wrong everytime he wins. Can you blame him? I don’t know…
The signed deal[which will reward these two men and their management
with lots of money] shows that the fight will take place on May 2nd,2015
in Las Vegas[Mayweather’s adopted home.He was born in Michigan].
History will put everything in record. Then we will know or we will see.
Let’s Get Ready To See Them Rumbleeeee! As days close in, I will let you know who I think will win or should win.
